December! One of our most festive months of the year at St. Thomas Preschool and Kindergarten. As we welcome new friends, and strengthen bonds with old ones, this is a month of celebration. Not only do we honor the birth of Jesus, but we take some time to thank Him for the joy He brought to our world. When parents ask me about our faith-based teachings at the school, I almost always emphasize the simple fact that we base our curriculum on being kind to each other.
Our November 21 Thanksgiving pot-luck at the school illustrated these teachings perfectly. Arriving early that morning, I was giving myself a pep talk as I entered the school: “You can set up all the tables and chairs just fine. It won’t take long – just hum a song and they’ll be done in no time.” As I rounded the corner to Julian Hall, I heard the screech-clunk of tables being assembled and was flushed with gratitude when I saw Mrs. Wood there – a full half an hour before her day started – putting up tables like a pro. A few parents came in around that time and jumped right in. We had the room set up in record time. After the event began, and food was brought in by so many families, we enjoyed a wonderful time of fellowship and celebration. Mrs. Hogan led her kindergarteners in a darling song, and all the children looked adorable in their Thanksgiving head pieces. After the crowd left, carrying art projects, empty dishes and full tummies, I started to give myself the same pep talk again: “You can put the tables and chairs away – it won’t take that long.” I turned around, and saw that four of our parents had no intention of leaving until everything was put back to order. While some folded tables, stacked chairs and took out trash, one of our Dads even got down on his hands and knees to wipe up spilt food from the floor. These actions of camaraderie, community, and yes, kindness, were so unexpected, but most deeply appreciated. I am grateful for the good-will offered by all of our families, but I have to express a special “thank you” to the clean-up crew. So, Tom Rushlow, Joe Prato, and Naomi and Zach Johnson, please open your hearts to readily receive the blessings that will surely flow upon you!
As always, I thank all of our families for sharing your children with us. I also extend a heart-felt thank-you to the teachers of S.T.E.P. for their loyalty, dedication, and always putting the children first. Please join us as we celebrate this magical season.
For all God’s children,
Sandi

Merry Christmas!
Time sure has been buzzing by. The end of the year is here? December is a festive time and a busy month everywhere, here in our Hive is no exception. This month we will learn about Baby Jesus why he makes Christmas so special. We will do our annual posada (that’s when Mary and Joseph look for a place to stay) tradition from Spain and Mexico after the posada the children enjoy hot chocolate and cookies. We will learn other December traditions as well. We have so much to do in our Busy Bee hive. We will also have our annual pageant and Our Book exchange Party. Look for time and dates.
A Thank You to all parents that have order from the book club, we have been able to receive new books for our classroom and one favorite is a game called muffin, a sorting, counting and matching game.
Jesus is the Reason for the Season!
Have a wonderful Christmas!

In November we learned to give thanks for our many blessings. This month we will learn that our greatest blessing is God's gift of his Son Jesus. Our memory verse is "Do everything in Love." I Corinthians 16:14. Our slogan for the month is "Love God's way: Give each day." We will learn through stories and songs, what it means to give to others with a heart of love. The days will be busy with Christmas crafts, practice for our Christmas program and fun activities, in addition to our regular curriculum. We will be reading books with short vowel words now. We will have a Christmas party in class and exchange books. I will give you details shortly. I pray that you will take the time in this busy month to enjoy the music and beauty of Christmas and appreciate the true meaning of this special holiday.
May you have a blessed Christmas.
